Sleeping baby

Posted on: March 19, 2011

I was asked to do my first baby shower cake and to be honest I was a little nervous about it. I haven’t done one yet, so I didn’t know what to expect of myself. Creating such a special cake for someone whom is expecting a baby is a big deal. Thoughts were going through my head like crazy, what if she didn’t like the design, the flavor, the colors, or even the cute little baby on top. With all of the emotions that an expecting mommy might be having, I didn’t want this to be one that she might throw her into labor.  It was nice that the mommy-to-be had an idea of what she wanted too. She wanted stripes on the top and dots with swirls on the bottom. She wanted a baby one the top and didn’t mind what the baby looked like, so I thought that a sleeping baby would look great. However, knowing what it is like to have been expecting before, I just thought of it as a cake that I might like myself and it just came to me and here it is. The colors were hot pink, teal, and silver. The baby is an adorable hand sculpted sleeping baby with black curly hair, all in which is made out of fondant and edible. I wasn’t too sure how the colors were going to look all together, but surprisingly enough I think it turned out quite well.
